  • It is very simple: In addition to searching for "Desktop", you can also find "Desktop" in the "All Apps" list, where you can right click it, and "Pin to Start".
  • Actually Desktop tile shown at Start Screen is a special type of shortcut which is present in "Programs" folder and if the shortcut gets deleted from the folder, it also disappears
  • If I browse to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" I can see that the shortcuts for these applications all still exist.
  • The All apps view didn't show all my programs.
  • Actually my laptop just got infected so is it possible if that folder is deleted?
  • To restore Desktop tile at Start Screen, you just need to copy Desktop shortcut in "Programs" folder again and it'll reappear at Start Screen.

If it doesnt help, try reset or refresh PC options. Microsoft has changed this behavior in Windows 8.1, in Windows 8 it used to add new programs shortcuts automatically on Start Screen.
