Sometimes a rescan in device manager will wake it up but usually only a reboot will. The bearing in the fan wears out/gets snarled, which basically causes a huge amount of resistance on the appropraite lines. i need help cleaning up my hard drive because i have nothing on the drive and i cant reduce the amount. I have no problem connecting to the network but at random times I lose connection to the internet for a few seconds or a few minuites. It seems to me to be a problem with the OS and not the HDD.

  1. I can't see any other explanation.
  2. I doubt that really means much, since yours is Intel and mine is AMD, and any power is coming from the PSU, so I don't see how it could be a
  3. They have a long history of ignoring Microsoft recommendations for coding for data integrity and security.
  4. I remember firmware issues on some Seagate models that had intermittent problems with disappearing.
  5. Maybe there's a bad sector on your drive, and it's causing your problem when it's indexing itself?

You mention your problem exists in Windows, but not Linux. External Hard Drive Disappears And Reappears When I use USB, it's all fine.
